Every Friday, I join many other bloggers at The Gypsy Mama to write about a topic of her choosing.
This week Lisa-Jo suggests:
The end of the week – a good time for few words.
Want to take five minutes with me and see which ones bubble to the surface?
Let’s just write and not worry if it’s just right or not. Here’s how we do it:
Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing or tweaking. Link back to her site and leave some comment love for those who wrote before you.
It’s a great way to exhale at the end of a beautiful week.
Without further ado, here is my submission today…
Five Minute Friday: Wonder
Today, my husband and I head out for vacation. It is not the type that most people choose as a way to spend their precious one or two weeks a year of time off.
We are headed to a workcamp in Pennsylvania.
Yes, you read that right. Work. Camp.
We join about 300-400 of friends we haven’t met yet to help folks who no longer can do for themselves.
You see, dear reader, it’s an opportunity to serve others and especially to serve God. As the sponsor of the camps writes on their site, “Nothing seems to spark spiritual growth like putting your Christian faith into action.”
We paint, we repair, we build. Homes, walkways, relationships.
We share our skills along with a huge dollop of faith, joy and love.
And paint. Lots of paint. Splattered on accidentally, brushed on purpose, especially on arms and legs and faces as the week wears down and the wonder builds.
Wonder at the incredible beauty of how teenagers can be so giving, so thoughtful, so caring, so hardworking.
Wonder at the awe-inspiring ability of of several hundred volunteers’ to change a community both inside and out.
Wonder at the amazing way God works in our lives, as he uses us to do His work.
I apologize in advance if I am not able to reply to any of you, since I will be on the road today, and won’t have much access at all this coming week.
