Five minute Friday: Beyond

Once I get beyond the just too cute flowered onesies and the dirty diapers…

Once I get beyond the bubble gum pink elastic waist pants and the toddler tantrums…

Once I get beyond the exasperated “Mom, everyone is wearing these” too snug jeans and the peeved protests…

Once I get beyond seeing my lovely daughters as young adults, happy and hopeful…

I ask forgiveness for not treasuring all the moments, especially the difficult ones that taught me so much: patience and hope, how to listen and learn from you as well.

I pray that I have taught how you how to be wise, to have given you multiple opportunities to grow and learn, and especially how to get back up after you fall in the adult world that extends so far beyond our home’s four walls.

Every Friday I join Lisa-Jo over at The Gypsy Mama for her Five Minute Friday prompts. It’s an opportunity for each of us to stop, drop, and write.
We write bold and beautiful and free. Unscripted and unedited. We just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

  1. ah, this really says it all, kim. i’m gonna really chew on this one! bittersweet.

    • Glad it touched your heart! It is bittersweet. I can remember all too well just waiting for what was just around the bend, for when it would get “easier”. It never got easier, it just got better.

  2. I enjoyed reading your post. I worry the same for my growing-up-way-too-fast teenagers. We have to trust that Heavenly Father will look out for them whenever we can’t.

I’m visiting from Five Minute Friday. I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

    • We do have to trust, and that he will look out for us as well when the going gets a little rocky.
      Thanks for coming by!

  3. I’m loving this picture. Leslie is totally rocking that Little Mermaid ensemble.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. You guys are amazing parents and we’re lucky to have you! Even if you did let us leave the house looking like that :)

    • Aw. You are rocking bright pink shoes. Did you notice those?
You are my favorite daughter named Alexis! Remember-we were teaching responsibility and making choices…I would do it all over again, mermaid outfits and hot pink shoes included!

  4. Love it Kim. Great post, great reminder!

  5. Thank you so much, Kim!

Such a timely and touching reminder…

Very true. How often do we wish away phases only to miss the precious moments.

May we learn to savor (and learn from) the moments instead!

    God bless you, my friend!
